Assisting Mine Workers with Property Investment

Assisting Mine Workers with Property Investment

How did I get started assisting mine workers with property investment? It all started with a client who was a senior mining engineer for Utah. He was based in their Brisbane office. I organised some property investment strategies for him – he told some of the fellows at their Moranbah mine and they said, “You better ask him to come up to Moranbah and give us some advice”.

Utah were at Moranbah in about 1982 (34 years ago). BHP bought out Utah and amalgamated the Goonyella and Riverside mines.

I have been assisting mine workers with property investment, in the Central Highlands, for 34 years and many other people from all walks of life.

So how did I end up in Emerald?

What is now known as Kestrel mine started out as Gordonstone. The management were all fairly young and wanted to set records in everything they did. They wanted to set a record for the best industrial relations. They were the first mine to have only one union, The United Mineworkers Federation of Australia known as UMFA. The Union negotiated a great deal – but knowing that historically a large percentage of the workers did not know how to manage their money, asked management to arrange someone to help them. Some of the management team were old clients of mine and they recommended that the Union members speak to me and then my business in Emerald grew by word of mouth to such an extent that the ex-wife thought I must have had a girlfriend (which I did not) and we got divorced and now I live here in Emerald.
