Have you Heard Steve’s Ad about Saving Marriages?

A recent couple that entered our office certainly can relate to it.  They came into the office looking quite dejected and left feeling ten-foot-tall and bullet proof.  Why did they look dejected?  It’s sad, but quite common for people in this region to be earning really good money, for many years, and to feel frustrated having nothng to show for it.

Steve, what did you do that turned them from being dejected to feeling euphoric?

“I usually start off establishing their current situation & then asking them individually where they would like to see themselves in 10yrs time.”  To imagine the end result is the most important step in achieving that result.  For example, if you are a golfer, you would have seen Jason Day close his eyes & imaging the flight, spin & landing of the ball before playing it. …am pleased that you do!”  As every client and couple is different, it is important to explore their priorities and agree on a target.  We then map out how to achieve it.

What are the impediments to financial success?

Generally, we can reduce it to two factors:  Not having a target and not controlling spending.  Given that we have covered the importance of an aligned goal, let us focus on controlled spending.  Controlling spending begins with controlling plastic.  Yes!!  Credit cards.  When you go to the checkout with a trolley full of groceries, ask yourself, “how much is this going to cost?”  Better still, as you use up items within the home, create a shopping list, estimate the cost, & pay in CASH.  If you must use plastic, have funds in a savings account & use a Debit Card.

Saving in a nutshell

Take the temptation and stress out of the equation by opening a savings account & have your employer’s pay office deposit 10% each payday.  With a vision of aligned goals, and systems in place to achieve those goals, any couple can have the opportunity to embrace more of a sense of euphoria in their marriage.
